Fish Tales

Wisconsin fly fishing reports and stories from the Musky Country Outfitters crew.

The 2011 season will go down in the Musky Country Outfitters logs as another amazing chapter.  We were fortunate enouhg to be able to spend yet another season in the big woods outside Hayward, Wisconsin focused on little other than hunting toothy predators and sharing the experience with good friends new and old.  BIG thanks to everyone who came out to fish with us this year, we wouldn't be able to do this without your support!

Here's a few highlights from last season as we wait on open water for 2012.

Putting in work to learn a large local lake paid off with a big topwater toad for big E just as a big thunderstorm was rolling in

Don't forget the backcountry lakes, the chainsaw work sometimes needed to clear the trails can lead to big rewards

The first musky on the fly is a huge milestone, and last season we were able to assist many anglers in achieving it

Kieth Kaneko of Angling on the Fly travel service spent some time checking out Musky Country with his good buddy Jim. It was very cool to share our world with a couple hardcore anglers who've been around the world, but had never seen this part of the country.  In addition to enjoying and appreciating the vast resources of northern Wisconsin, both of these guys were able to land their first musky on the fly and experienced a number of other musky encounters.  Kieth writes about their experience in his Fish Blog at
