Brian grew up in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, his mother a teacher and his father an avid fisherman.  In 2001 he moved north, to Duluth and the western shores of Lake Superior to attend college at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he studied business, but probably learned even more about fly fishing for steelhead.  The opportunity for a 'real' job was not his top priority after finishing school, and he eventually started working at the Great Lakes Fly Shop where he would begin his guiding career, and develop an interest in photography along the way.

In 2006 he met Brad Bohen, and worked with him at a private club Bohen was caretaking for on a world-class trout and steelhead river- the Boise Brule.  Eventually Bohen would move back down to the Hayward area to fish and guide for musky on the fly- his true passion.  Growing up Brian was a musky nut with conventional gear (mostly due to an uncle and father with an affliction for these fish), but had gotten away from it when he moved to Duluth and became more focused on fly fishing, so when Bohen showed him what could be done with a ten weight and a big bucktail fly he knew he had found his calling.

Brian and Brad have been haunting the northwoods musky waters ever since, assembling a fishing crew dubbed the 'Musky Tribe,' to make a team effort out of studying and learning these fish and finding new and innovative ways to fool them into eating flies. Their dedication and time on the water has given them the opportunity to study these fish on a daily basis, and the learning that has taken place as a result has led to many a musky encounter.

In November of 2011 Brian had the good fortune to put his dad on the biggest musky of his life- caught on a fly that he created.  His younger brother also caught the first musky of his life that day, on a fly no less. The high point of his season for sure, and one of the most cherished moments in his angling career.

In his own words... "I really enjoy giving folks a totally unique experience and showing off the amazing area we call Musky Country. The nature of this type of fishing requires you to be out there as much as possible if you really want to learn about and encounter these fish, and guiding has given me an opportunity to do just that- justify fishing nearly every day, and give anglers a good look into our world, and that of the musky."
